Process Director is under active development at all times. These development efforts are designed to both fix technical issues and to provide new features and functionality. As a result of this ongoing development, new versions of Process Director are released on a recurring basis.
There are both advantages and disadvantages to this type of active development. On the plus side, this development style means that BP Logix can address technical issues and provide new features on a frequent basis, as part of the continuous improvement of the product. The downside, of course, is that any given version of the product can become rapidly "obsolete".
This can also pose a challenge to some Cloud customers when they wish to upgrade. Cloud installations in a shared hosting environment pose some technical and management challenges that on-premise installations don't have to worry about. When you add an active release schedule, which may result in a relatively large number of recent product versions, to the mix, these challenges are compounded.
To serve our Cloud customers most effectively, BP Logix needs to ensure two things. First, customers need to have access to the most up-to-date version of the product. Second, customers need to be assured that the Cloud experience is as seamless and error-free as possible. To meet these two objectives, the BP Logix policy for upgrade requests is that upgrades will, by default, always be implemented to install the product version of the latest public release.
We realize that the best practice for upgrading your installation is to upgrade the DEV/STAGE system first, performing adequate testing, then upgrading the PROD system. We understand that this testing may take some time. Furthermore, we understand that this process can be complicated by new releases that may drop during the testing phase. To alleviate possible concerns about this timing, Cloud customers may request, on a case-by-case basis, that BP Logix consider upgrading the PROD server to a recent previous version that is already in use on DEV/STAGE systems for testing, as long as the requested version was released within the previous six months.
If you have any questions about this policy, please contact your BP Logix Account Representative.
